Recent Happenings !!

1. It’s been a year and half since I have joined the company, I have seen through the market crash (Fall of Lehman in Oct 2008) and then the post election rise of Indian markets. I have been recruited in the corporate finance department, where in I needed to manage existing relationships with FI’s, bring in new relationships, raise debts and help in equity dilution (blah blah..). Sounds a lot of work right. But most of it didn’t work out because of the global economic conditions. So instead of spending most of my time doing nothing, I got involved in a lot of strategy projects. As to what I can understand, these projects have saved a lot of costs for the company and given the board a new dimension to think. My role evolved from Corporate Finance to Corporate Finance & Strategy.

But now, I have started feeling a little bored of my work (most days there have been less (read no) work). Is it because I am an MBA that 1.5 years in the first job sound too much… there had been time on campus when we used to hear that 80% people switch jobs in the first year after campus… is it because of the fit in the organization… or looking for the perfect role…and the other things that people keep talking about.. Is there a perfect role? (Let’s discuss that on some other post)

2. We are planning a trip to Dubai in the last week of this month. A holiday finally… I have been waiting for it for a long time now. Don't worry I shall upload the pics and have a nice travel log of the same soon.

3. One of my passions is playing cards specially Poker. The same is also shared with my wife and two of my friends. We have started with the weekly poker night and for the same have purchased the poker chips to get the feel of playing in real. The game does involve real money transaction and I have been losing from the last two times we have played. Hope my luck turns this time.

A Once in a LIFE TIME EXPERIENCE !!!

Finally we made a trip together with almost a third of my batch to ‘PATAL-PANI’. Let me take u from the beginning. All of us assembled in front of E Block (That’s one of the hostel block). The Cultural committee people had arranged for 12 seaters. We were in around 50 people. We started from the college by around 1:00 pm. We reached the place by around 2. There some people wanted to have food and others wanted to go to the waterfall. PATAL PANI is a waterfall, and very beautiful scenic place. So we were divided in 3 groups, first - who went down to the waterfall immediately, second – who wanted to have food and then come down and third – who didn’t wanted to come down. Mess Committee arranged food for all the people going for this trek. I was in the first group.

So we started for the waterfall. I being a local was told to lead. We asked a couple of persons of the way down to the fall. They said one is harder and there are easier ways to go down. We decided on going by the easier way. We were around 15 – 18 people together. We went in search of the easier way and what happened was the experience of a LIFE TIME.

We were not able to find any easy way, and for our luck we found a guy who showed a way down. The way was fully covered with trees and plants on both d sides. We walked down on the path, and I think some of us got a few scratches bcoz of the bushes. The way down was a bit easier. Once we reached down, we walked towards the direction opposite of the flow of water. We expected it to lead us to the waterfall (which it did, but not the one expected). The way was a bit hard with water flowing and rocks covered with algae. I slipped a couple of times, and one of my friends Hooda fell down badly on his knees. We walked around 8 km since we reached PATAL PANI and still has not reached the fall. We found a small waterfall, and no way towards the bigger one where v intended to go. Luckily for us we found a local person of the place there. We asked him the way; he said we came wrong way all along. We were a bit disheartened. We asked him to show us the way towards the fall. The way he showed didn’t seem easy, so we offered him Rs 50 to help us reach up.

Now the actual experience begins. The way up was THE HARDEST TREK I ever did in my life. The way was slippery mostly because of loose stones and moss. I am assuming that most of u have seen mission impossible and remember the mountain climb seen of Tom Cruise. We had a similar climb to do, of course not so tall and with no safety equipments. It was so steep and the worst part the rain started at that very moment when I was about to climb. I had to take off my sandals and throw them up because I was getting absolutely no grip. Finally we all managed to climb this part and got ready to face the next one. The path was so sleek that v had to hold on to something on our right side (hill side) as there was a steep fall on the other side. We all made to the top with no one having any kind of accident (am sure some godly power helped all of us there). The scene at the top was amazing. Everyone was hugging each other, and everyone was silent. It seemed that we all have learned something from the trip, and that is the importance of life. We all regained the love for life, or it intensified. This is a once in a LIFE TIME kinda trip. Am sure none of us will ever forget this. I shall put the pics of the trip in a couple of days.
I LOVE YOU ALL.
